One random day last May, my friend PJ invited me on a little hike with her, just a couple miles, not a ton of elevation gain. Sounds great for a Saturday morning, right?
Yeah, it sounds great until you end up on the wrong trail, and seven hours later, you can barely walk!
Sore bodies aside, it was still amazing. And more importantly, it was a long day of hanging out with PJ and her boyfriend Marc! We don't get to see each other nearly as often as I'd like, so a full day hike was amazing!
What we thought we were hiking:
Dirty Harry's Balcony
Length: 5 miles round trip
Elevation Gain: 1300 ft.
Rate: 520 ft/mile
What we actually hiked:
Dirty Harry's Peak
Length: 8 miles round trip
Elevation Gain: 3400 ft.
Rate: 850 ft/mile
For comparison's sake, here are the stats of the Bright Angel's trail at the Grand Canyon (which Tim and I hiked a few years ago)
Bright Angel's Trail
Length: 9.6 miles round trip
Elevation Gain: 3060 ft.
Rate: 637.5 ft/mile
Soo....we we were total badasses that day for hiking a trail steeper than the freakin' Grand Canyon all in one day!
The whole trail was made through an old river creek bed, so it was super rocky and a little hard to walk!
One of my favorite photos of us!
The top! At last!
Marc and PJ have this awesome hammock they can tie up anywhere!! Super sweet
I wont even talk about the hike down! PJ and I both have bum knees- ouch!
Thank goodness for sticks!
All done! Tired girls! Thanks for the hike PJ, Marc, and Sir Bunsen!
