Concrete Jungle Where Dreams are Made of

Am I the only one who never gets sick of that song? "Let's hear it for New York, New York, New Yoooooooork!"

At the end of June, Tim and I took a spur of the moment trip to NYC!  We had enough airline miles for a free flight, needed to get out of town, so we booked flights to one of our favorite cities!

Oh my word, it was so hot.

So hot.

And humid.  And did I mention hot?

But we made it back without melting!

Barely.

We arrive in the city on a Friday morning after a red eye the previous evening.  We emerged from Penn Station and were greeted with such high humidity and heat that I almost turned around and went straight for the plane back!

But, I was starving and there was a delicious looking pizza joint a few steps away, so instead we busted into the air conditioned restaurant and lingered over our delicious slices while we tried to cool down.

After we checked into our hotel, I drug Tim a few blocks away to where one of my favorite stores, C.Wonder, was located!  I was in a dream wondering around the pretty store!  I grabbed a pair of mint flats with gold tips on clearance!

Then we stopped by the famous Eileen's Special Cheesecake since it was right next door.  Yum yum yum!

By this point, Tim had gotten a message from his bff from elementary school, Anthony, who lives in NYC.  He was working on a documentary fairly close to us, so then it was Tim's turn to drag me up many more blocks to see his long time friend after years of separation!

The three of us spent the afternoon at High Line Park

The rest of the day was spent among bars, because, well, we had bars to visit.

First up was McGee's, which is the bar that MacLaren's from How I Met Your Mother is based on.

Then we found Please Don't Tell!
Please Don't Tell is an old speakeasy that's still in operation.  You enter it through a phone booth in the next door hot dog stand.  Pretty awesome!  Even having to wait in the claustrophobic booth still made it awesome!
They make crazy cool specialty cocktails with things I've never heard of!  Each one is meticulously labored over while you watch!

Finally, we ended the night by meeting up with one of our couple friends, John and Gemma, who happened to be in NYC as well!

Saturday we started at the Upper West Side
After I bought a pile of belts at Century 21 (random purchase), we stopped for a delicious Red Velvet cupcake at Magnolia Bakery.

We literally had iced drinks of some sort in our hands 24/7.
After exploring a little, we grabbed some magazines and cold drinks, and met up with John and Gemma to relax in Central Park!

We went to the Shake Shack for dinner (so delicious omg) and then headed up to Yankee Stadium for a Yankee/Red Sox game!

We came a little early so Tim could check out some memorial thing while I died from heat exhaustion.

I'm embarrassed to admit, but I fell asleep for three innings because the heat made me so drowsy!  I slept so much that weekend...
Sunday was Mad Men/Breakfast at Tiffany's/Upper West Side day!

After a quick walk through Little Italy and Grand Central Station that is.

Holly GoLightly's Apartment

After trying to cool down in the park again, I just couldn't take the heat any longer, and we went back to the hotel for a nice long afternoon nap.  We slept a lot on this vacation.

That evening we went to dinner and then decided to check out the Empire State Building!
Little Italy lit up at night!  So pretty!

Afterward we enjoyed some nice champagne and chocolates!

Our last day was spent checking out the Natural History Museum.  It was awesome, if only to keep out of the heat.  Also because of the rocks and minerals section:
Ooooooh pretty!!! I could have stayed in there all day!  I love rocks!

The museum also had other things, like dinosaurs bones and skeletons, but I was mostly memorized by the rocks.  I really, really love rocks.

Then our flight was delayed four hours and we got to our condo around 2:30 A.M.!!  Fun times, right??

We miss you New York! We'll be back soon, but maybe have to go to Boston or Philly first!
